NATCHEZ TRACE – A Houston man died in an early-morning, one-vehicle accident Wednesday on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Chickasaw County.
Jamie Adams, 41, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene after the black Ford pickup he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree at milepost 233 just south of Witchdance about 4 a.m.
“We are not sure what caused him to leave the roadway,” said Chickasaw County Coroner Andy Harmon. “The accident was reported by a passerby who came upon the accident. He was northbound and at that time of the morning we think he might have gone to sleep.”
Harmon said it appears Harmon left the roadway, over-corrected and then hit the tree.
Harmon said no other vehicles were involved in the accident and Adams was alone in the truck.
Natchez Trace Park Rangers, Houston Fire Department, Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department and TransCare Ambulance responded to the scene.
While the accident did not block the parkway commuters traveling the Trace were slowed as the accident was cleared.
