The Houston high school baseball team came out of MHSAA playoffs, went straight into the summer ball season and now are heading to another championship series.
Houston White participated in the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball regional tournament last week, winning two and dropping one, to claim a spot in the championship round.
The Houston boys thumped East Union, 13-3, to open and topped Shannon, 8-1. They fell to Tupelo, 6-3, in their final regional game.
They were scheduled to enter the series Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the New Albany Sportsplex.
More Toppers on the field
Two Houston players are pulling double duty this summer, splitting time on the diamond between Houston White and the Pontotoc Red Sox Senior Legion team.
Rising seniors Reid Carter and Clay Hillhouse, along with 2014 graduate Austin Burdine, assisted the Red Sox in a double-header win over Tuscaloosa and Florence June 21.
In the Red Sox’s 6-2 win over Tuscaloosa, multiple hits were recorded by Burdine and Carter while Hillhouse had a double.
In the nightcap game, Burdine got the win from the mound and helped himself with a home run. Hillhouse had multiple hits with a double.
