HOUSTON – Mary Evelyn Thomas Pate, 97, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston.
She was born July 13, 1916, in Houston to Charlie Clayton Thomas and Maggie Jadie Neal Thomas. She was a lunchroom worker for 20 years and a homemaker. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Houston Funeral Home with the Rev. Jane Houser officiating. Burial will follow in Houston Cemetery in Houston. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Charles R. and Nancy Pate of Aberdeen; her sister, Minnie Jean Denson of Houston; her brother, Paul “Doug” and Evelyn Thomas of Paradise, Calif.; her grandchildren, Kimberly and Mario Simoes of Deland, Fla. and Kevin and Amy Pate of Nettleton; and her great-grandchildren, Logan Pate and Paisley Pate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James W. Pate; her son, James Thomas “Tom” Pate; her brothers, James Robert Thomas, Billy Thomas and Richard “Rick” Thomas; and her sister, Sarah Childs.
Pallbearers are Keith “Tyke” Thomas, Jamie Thomas, John Ford, Linda Ford, Clannie “Butch” Childs and Donnie Alford.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Houston.
