Hazel Grammer

SHANNON – Hazel Jean Kennedy Grammer, 79, died Monday, June 16, 2014, at her residence in Shannon after an extended illness. She was born in Tishomingo County on Dec. 3, 1934, to Willie Dexter and Virdie Lorena Stanley Kennedy.

She worked for 32 years as a nurse’s aide for North Mississippi Medical Center where she was much loved by her patients and all her associates. A woman completely devoted to her family, she was beloved by her children, grandchildren, extended family and many friends. A lover of the outdoors, she was a camper and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of South Green Baptist Church in Tupelo and attended Calvary Baptist in Shannon.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. James H. Knight officiating. Private burial will be in Doty Chapel Cemetery in Shannon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time on Wednesday. Holland Funeral Directors is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include her sons, Jackie Grammer (Cindy) of Old Union, Mickey Grammer (Dian) of Shannon, Rickey Grammer of Shannon and Nathan Grammer (Vida) of Tupelo; her daughter, Pam Grammer Thrasher (Jimmy) of Shannon; one sister, Betty Donahue of Tupelo; two sisters-in-law, Martha Kennedy of Houlka and Martha Kennedy of Mantachie; her grandchildren, Christy Blanchard, Shelley Drewery (Sammy), Jessi Grammer, Michael Grammer (Danielle), Nikki Grammer, Ashley Thrasher, Madison Thrasher, Kathryn Jones, and Andrea Horn; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles Franks; her second husband, Ray Grammer; three brothers: Stanley, Freddy and Wayne Kennedy; two sisters: Hassaline Mills and Alma Henry; and three brothers-in-law: Miles Donahue, Robby Mills and Glen Henry.
Pallbearers will be David Mills, Darrell Johnson, William Kidd, Wesley Blalock and Glen Kennedy.
