HOUSTON – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., touches lives of children all around the world and some local children did their part to help this spring.

The St. Jude Math-a-Thon is an annual event at Houston Lower Elementary School and had more participants than ever this year.
“We had 87 kids,” said Daphne King of HLES. “It was the most we’ve ever had.”
Students solicit sponsors to donate money as they complete a workbook of math problems. This year, the goal was about $3,000.
“I didn’t know if we’d get that but we almost doubled it,” King said.
King said student participation has allowed the school to donate over $30,000 to the facility over the past 12 years.
