Chief Deputy James Myers, of the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department said Matthew Stone, a Houston teenager, was seriously injured when the ATV he was riding on hit a ditch.
“There were apparently a group of them riding in a field and the driver of the ATV apparently didn’t know the area and when he tried to pass one of the other ATV’s, he hit a ditch,” said Myers. “The driver suffered a broken leg but Stone was more seriously hurt than everyone realized.”
Myers said deputies responding to the scene realized the extent of the accident and called for an ambulance. EMT’s realized Stone was seriously hurt and called for a helicopter, which landed in a nearby field.
“This is the second serious 4-wheeler accident we’ve had this year and we want to urge riders to exercise caution and wear a helmet,” said Myers. “We also want riders to know that unless your ATV has a tag, it is not to be on public roads and they need to stay off private property.”
