Walker heads to State meet

Vardaman High School may not have a full golf team, but they’re sending a Ram on to the State meet next week.
Sophomore Brandon Walker qualified at the district meet at Big Oaks Golf Course hosted by Tupelo Christian Preparatory School. Walker shot a 74 over 18 holes to capture the 2-1A medalist title that will advance him to State.
“He came within a heartbeat of shooting par,” said coach Larry Gann. “About a half-roll on 18 of shooting 73. He was on his game.”
Gann said Walker has spent years on the golf course with family and friends and gained plenty of experience to compete at the varsity level.
“All he needs from me is to tell him what time the match is and where to go,” Gann laughed.
TCPs was the team winner in 2-1A district meet which also saw teams from Hamilton and Smithville competing.
Walker was joined in the competition by Vardaman’s Cody McMahan.
