Jump on the roller coaster

DIIA__MUG_Lisa_Voyles_newThat we call spring here in Northeast Mississippi.

No, it’s not the weather, that seems to be working itself out pretty well.
It’s all the activities and trying to pick one, two or a couple without missing any of the rest.
I don’t know about you, but I’m getting older and just don’t have the stamina I used to but I still hate to miss out an a good time.
That said, here are just a few of the upcoming events that might be of interest.
The Taste of Houston is set for this Friday with several local businesses providing delicious dishes to be served up in bite-sized pieces for a plate full of goodies. It’s a kind of combination customer appreciation day and reminder to patronize our merchants and shop locally. Tickets are $10 each and the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family Life Center of First United Methodist Church in Houston.
Friday also kicks off the Spring Flywheel Festival running through Saturday featuring tractors and engines, arts and crafts, vendors, fish fry and pancake breakfast. Now there’s a “something for everyone” event!
Sports is on tap for a couple of local teams, too. The Hilltoppers will begin playoffs at home Thursday and will have Game Three of the series, if needed, on Saturday. The Lady Toppers won’t know if they are playing or will get a bye until probably Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, but I’ll bet they’re prepared either way.
And for our younger players, Super Saturday will kick off – guess when – Saturday morning at the city fields in Houston. Players from ages three to 16 will start off the baseball and softball summer season and are sure to pack the crowds in to watch.
Ok, you got all that? Marking that calendar? Don’t miss out on your favorite event.
And just think, that’s all in one week.
Check our community events calendar on page 5 for even more activities.
Don’t let anyone tell me there’s nothing to do in a small town.
