HHS students serve in Senate

1STOCK Capitol Bldg FlowersJACKSON – Three local students recently spent some time in the State Capitol as Senate pages for District 8 Senator Russell Jolly of Houston.

Harley Morgan Nabors, Alexis Smith and Alex Springer all made their first trip to Jackson to participate in the page program. Pages traditionally run errands for officials and Senate staff and have the opportunity to learn more about state government.
“A school contains books with printed facts that are dated,” said Nabors. “However, at the Capitol, I witnessed history in the making.”
Smith said she liked watching government officials in action.
“While paging under Senator Jolly, I enjoyed having a firsthand experience of witnessing the debates and final outcome of our state legislative leaders,” Smith said.
Springer expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the program.
“Getting to experience the job of a senator firsthand was an educational experience I will not soon forget,” Springer said. “I would like to thank Senator Jolly for his hospitality and for allowing me to page.”
All three participants are students at Houston High School. Nabors is the son of Lee and Millette Nabors, Smith is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Smith and Springer is the daughter of Barry and Julie Springer.
