Claiming their spots

The Hilltopper tennis team finished second in division and were scheduled to head to Cleveland Tuesday for their first round of playoffs, but five members of the team have already clinched a trip to State in individual events.
The boy’s doubles team of Walt Harrington and Chase Eldridge took top honors in division and will play together in the State competition in May.
Last season, Harrington doubled with Emmitt Dendy and Eldridge competed in singles.
“This is our first year to go together,” said Harrington. “We will have fun no matter what, but our goal is to play our best.”
Eldridge is also looking forward to the trip.
“I’m really anxious to play doubles with Walt because I feel like we coordinate with each other really well on the court,” Eldridge said.
Ezra Blissard will enter the boy’s singles event after playing doubles in the 2013 team tournament.
“Going in singles instead of doubles makes me feel more accomplished because it’s all on me and I know I did it myself,” Blissard said. “I am super excited about going to State!”
The mixed doubles team of Hannah Welch and Lane Brandon also secured a spot at the State meet.
“This is my first time,” Welch said. “I’m very excited and can’t thank my coaches enough for helping me get this far.”web tennis
