Spring turkey season open

Wild-Turkey-ARTThe spring turkey season opened March 15 and ends May 1. Opportunities to pursue spring gobblers are plentiful across the Magnolia State, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) anticipates that hunting success will be good in 2014.
“Jake sightings were up across most areas of the state last spring as a result of a very good hatch during the summer of 2012,” says Dave Godwin, MDWFP Wild Turkey Program Coordinator.
Bag limits for the spring season are one adult gobbler or one gobbler with at least a 6-inch beard per day, not to exceed three per spring season. Youth hunters 15 years of age and younger may harvest one gobbler of choice per day, not to exceed three per spring season. The spring turkey season is closed in the counties or parts thereof in Coahoma, Quitman and Sunflower.
