Janice Mitchell

TUPELO – Janice Holomon Mitchell, 59, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Aug. 27, 1954, to Hosie Holomon Sr. and Lavora Traylor Holomon. She was married to Henry Mitchell, who preceded her in death. She united with Red Oak Grove M.B. Church in Tupelo at an early age and she remained a devoted and faithful member. Her Christian life speaks for itself. She served as church custodian and on the finance committee, assistant treasurer, and on the kitchen committee. She lived true to these words “”Treat others as …”” She was a servant leader. She was a graduate of Tupelo High School Class of 1972. She was employed by Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal for more than 33 years. She had no children of her own, but she nurtured all of her nieces, nephews and anyone else who needed her help. She always had a smile on her face.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Red Oak M.B. Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Gladney officiating. Burial will be at Centerhill Cemetery. Agnew and Sons Funeral Home of Verona is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one brother, Hosie Holomon Jr. (Catherine) of Memphis; two sisters, JoAnn Ledbetter (Barry) of Verona and Rachel Ford (James) of Tupelo; her mother-in-law, Cleota Mitchell of Plantersville; three aunts, Pearlean Bell of Plantersville, Floyd Whitfield of Tupelo and Lou Jean Ruff of Amory; one uncle, Jimmie Traylor (Sallie) of Milwaukee, Wis.; six sisters-in-law, Valda Shumpert, Debra Staples, Evalou Betts Collier, Bonnie Mitchell Perkins, Irma Bond (Walter) and Dorothy Evans; one brother-in-law, Elzy Mitchell (Cora); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one brother, Jimmy Holomon.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday with the family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. in Verona.
