HOULKA – Gerald Morris Fortner, 56, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Aug. 9, 1957, in Chickasaw County to John and Hollen Fortner, and he was a lifelong resident of Houlka.
He was a longtime manager of T.M. Parks Sales and Drilling in Houlka, where he touched the lives of many. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Southern Funeral Chapel of Houston with Bro. Flippin officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka. Southern Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two brothers, Travis Leon Fortner (JoAnne) of Houston and John Allen Fortner (Barbara) of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two nieces, Lisa Harvell and Holley Fortner of Memphis, Tenn.; two nephews, Jonathan Fortner of Vardaman and Joshua Fortner (Angela) of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a great-niece, McKenzie; and two great-nephews, Asa and Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hollen Fortner; and one brother, Lealon Abston Fortner.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
