In a critical Division 4-2A battle, Okolona and Bruce went into the fourth quarter tied at 13.
The two teams battling for playoff positioning each piled up points in the final quarter, going into overtime tied 33-33. The host Trojans forced overtime with a 1-yard touchdown run by Donta Armstrong and extra point with 38 seconds remaining in regulation.
But it would be the visiting Chieftains who spoiled Bruce’s homecoming by stopping a 2-point conversion run by Jay Johnson to hold on for a 41-39 victory.
BOONEVILLE 26, BELMONT 6: Quarterback Jack Simpson rushed for three touchdowns Friday night to lead the Booneville Blue Devils to a 26-6 Division 1-3A road win against Belmont.
Simpson scored on two 1-yard runs and a 3-yard run. James Christian added Booneville’s final score on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Booneville (7-2, 3-1) fell behind in the first quarter to Belmont (2-7, 1-3) when Harrison Fancher caught a 32-yard TD pass from Luke Alexander.
OXFORD 47, CLARKSDALE 12: The Journal’s top-ranked 5A/6A team built a 34-6 halftime lead and cruised to its Division 1-5A win.
Oxford (9-0, 5-0) quarterback Jack Abraham threw TD passes of 12 and 4 yards to D.K. Metcalf and 11 yards to Ethan Holmes, who also had a 2-yard TD run.
J.R. Anderson had an 18-yard return of a blocked punt for a TD in the second quarter for the Chargers. Kenzie Phillips added TD runs of 5 and 6 yards.
LAFAYETTE 30, SENATOBIA 7: The Commodores (5-5, 2-2) scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns in their Division 2-4A win.
D.K. Buford had a 4-yard TD run and Tyrell Price a 3-yard TD scamper. Rashaun Rockett added Lafayette’s final points with a 43-yard return of a fumble recovery.
Ryan Holland kicked a 27-yard field goal and Devon Thomas fired a 25-yard TD pass to Landon Busby for the Commodores.
MANTACHIE 42, EAST UNION 14: Mustangs quarterback Dustin Carrell rushed for three TDs and passed for 3 more in team’s Division 1-2A win.
Carrell also kicked all six extra points for the Mustangs (7-3, 3-1).
CALHOUN CITY 27, EUPORA 20: The Wildcats (6-3, 3-0), ranked No. 5 in Journal’s 1A/2A rankings, remained undefeated in Division 4-2A with its home win.
Brieton Sykes scored his second TD with a 45-yard interception return in the fourth quarter. He scored earlier on a 23-yard pass from Chakel Gates.
NETTLETON 47, SOUTH PONTOTOC 18: Quarterback Dakota Cruber threw six touchdown passes and rushed for one to lead the Tigers (6-4, 2-2) to a Division 4-3A victory.
Cruber’s TD strikes went to Jeremy Cook, Jordan Smith, Kendall Garner and Levert Jernigan. Cook and Smith caught two apiece.
AMORY 28, TISHOMINGO COUNTY 16: Amory scored two second-half TDs – one on Michael Boyd’s 33-yard pass interception return and the other on a 27-yard run by Fred Garth in its 1-4A win.
Isaiah Carter had a 40-yard interception return and T.J. Fields a 28-yard TD run for the Panthers (4-6, 2-2) in the first half.
RIPLEY 51, BYHALIA 7: Christian Johnson rushed for 127 yards and scored four TDs in No. 2-ranked Tigers’ 2-4A win.
KOSSUTH 27, MOOREVILLE 15: Weston Bobo and Tyler Swicher scored second-half rushing TDs and Jacob Meeks kicked field goals of 32 and 40 yards for the Kossuth.
MARSHALL ACA. 62, DESOTO 38: Marshall QB Dakota Dailey rushed for 175 yards and 5 TDs to lead the Patriots. Junior RB Devin McGregor rushed for 203 yards and scored twice.
H.W. BYERS 36, STRAYHORN 22: H.W. Byers (9-0, 4-0) remained unbeaten with a Division 2-2A win.
