HOUSTON – A single car accident Saturday seriously injured a Pontotoc man, prompting him to be airlifted to Tupelo.
Houston police, fire and ambulance crews were dispatched to the western end of Jamison Street at 8:34 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor heard the crash and called 911.
“When we got on the scene we found a silver Mustang had driven head-on into an industrial dumpster filled with scrap steel,” said Houston Fire Department Captain Jonathan Blankenship. “He appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed and we had to cut the car apart to extricate him.”
The driver was identified as Martinez Eugenio Rocha, 28, of Pontotoc. Rocha was transported to Trace Regional Hospital and immediately carried by helicopter to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Police reports indicate two Hispanic men were seen leaving the scene.
The incident is still under investigation by the Houston Police Department.
