HOUSTON – Arveria Williams May, 91, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as senior choir director, adult Sunday school teacher, Senior Mission member, secretary of North Mt. Olivet District and chairperson of the Culinary Committee.
She was a retired teacher with the Houlka Attendance Center. She was a graduate of Okolona College, Rust College and the University of Mississippi.
A celebration service honoring her life will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Willie B. Lairy officiating. She is survived by her six children, Ruth Lois of Taylorsville, and Burford (Helen) May, Wallace (Shiley) May, Clementine Anderson, Artherine Foster and Teresa Easley, all of Houston; one sister, Ira W. McFarland of Houston; three generations of grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the J.W. Porter Chapel. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday.
