PITTSBORO – Clinton Elvis McGreger, 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Calhoun County.
He was a graduate of Vardaman High School. He was an active member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer for many years. He married Cela Mitchell and they made their home in the Rocky Mount community on the family farm. A farmer by profession he had a love for the land and for his farm.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Rocky Mount Baptist Church at Pittsboro. Bro. Larry Haggard and Bro. Clovis Logan will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Mount Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Cela Mitchell McGreger of Pittsboro; one daughter, Sandra Rogers (Tommy) of Tupelo; one son, Mitch McGreger (Christy) of Bruce; one sister, Moss Green of Bruce; four grandchildren, Jamie Sims (Evelyn), Amanda Beckett (Brandon), Nathan McGreger (Angela) and Nicholas McGreger (Chelsea); three stepgrandchildren, Chad Rogers (Ann), Brad Rogers (Meadow) and Haley Williams; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Newton McGreger and Maudie Murphree McGreger, and three sisters, Audie Burt, Beatrice Haire and Birtis Bryant.
Pallbearers will be Lowell Bryant, Scott Collins, J.C. Haire, Sid Haire, Nathan McGreger, Nick McGreger, Jerry Murphree and Jamie Sims.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
