Topper tennis honored at banquet

HOUSTON – Following an 11-1 season that landed them as district champions and earned them a spot in post-season playoffs, members of the Houston High School tennis team were treated to a congratulatory banquet July 24.
Coach Robert Winters announced awards for the final time as he is stepping down as tennis coach and taking the position of principal at Houston Lower Elementary School. Clayton Dodd will assume coaching responsibilities for the team next spring.
Emmitt Dendy and MaKayla Pullen were recognized as team captains for the season. Dendy is a six-year member of the team and Pullen is a five-year member. They received letters for their years of participation as did Dylan Moore as a three-year member of the team.
Chapman Boyer, who played mixed doubles with Pullen, was recognized as Most Improved for the season.
Most Valuable Player awards went to Hannah Welch and Walt Harrington.
