Hoover Vance

HOULKA – Leonard “Hoover” Vance, 77, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at his residence in Houlka. A native of Calhoun County, he was the son of the late Vernon and Verna Mae Vance.

He was a member of West Grove M.B. Church in Houlka. He loved being with his friends and his chickens.

Celebration of life services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at West Grove M.B. Church. The Rev. Ricky Pratt will officiate. Burial will be in Cane Creek Cemetery in Vardaman. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Zella Vance of Houlka; three daughters, Myrtice (Robert) White, Mary (Monk) Fitzpatrick and Betty (Robert) Blaylock, all of Houlka; two sons, Robert (Michelle) Vance and Eddie Vance, both of Houlka; two sisters, Trudie Gordon and Leola Gaston, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, D.J. Vance of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three godchildren, Freddy Bean, Teresa Hightower and Lois Smith; a special niece, Manda “Punkin” Griffin; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
