Rams building for spring

web vard The summer baseball season is over for the Vardaman Rams who ended with a 9-7 win over Bruce.

“That was our last JV/Varsity game for summer,” said coach Boo Griffin.
Griffin took the helm of the Rams baseball program in 2011 and just finished up his second regular baseball season and second summer season. He is a firm believer in summer play as a method to build the team from the bottom and incorporate younger players into the mix before the school season begins.
“I’ve seen a lot of different players really grow up this year,” Griffin said.
The team was young this spring and will be again next season, but Griffin has confidence in the leadership of his few upperclassmen.
“Our two seniors, Chase Owens and Kent Casey, are really good leaders and they have a good group coming in behind them,” Griffin said.
Griffin is already looking toward next season and making plans.
“Our division will be tough next year,” Griffin said. “We’ve got Hamilton coming in and Tremont going out. It’s a pretty tough division already with Houlka, TCPS and Smithville. With us, that’s five pretty good teams already.”
