Summer 7-on-7

web 7 Yes, it’s summer but with less than two months to go before football season starts, the fields are busy with jamborees and 7-on-7 games to keep players sharp and in shape.

Houston hosted Hatley in a 7-on-7 match Monday with the Hilltoppers coming out on the top of the scoreboard. The Tigers scored once to the Hilltoppers six TD and the Houston boys added in four interceptions just to keep things interesting.
Although the Toppers are most well known for a running offense, Coach Coty Cox said the passing scrimmage was beneficial in several areas.
“It (passing) is an aspect of your game you have to develop,” Cox said.
And the defensive line coach also sees positive aspects in developing skills on the defending line of scrimmage.
“It allows us to work on our coverages,” Cox said.
Cox is taking defensive line members back to East Mississippi Community College this week for another round of camp. Like last year’s venture, he expects the team members to gain more skills to use on the field this fall.
