16 youth headed to the Hilltopper baseball field in Houston last week for the traditional summer camp that teaches basic skills of the game.
HHS Coach Scott Gann said 16 campers turned out to learn the fundamentals of hitting, throwing and running and members of the varsity team assisted in coaching the younger players.
The three-day camp focuses on the basic skills of the game, but the final day concluded with a scrimmage game between campers, just what the players were looking forward to.
“There’s parts that you can just teach, teach, teach, but then they want to play,” Gann smiled. “And they get to play on the high school field.”
The event is used as a fundraiser for the HHS baseball program and incorporates high school players to mentor youth while they learn to play the game.
