PONTOTOC – Monroe George Garrett, 66, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson. A native of Pontotoc, he was the son of William and Bessie Mae Garrett. He was a member of McDonald United Methodist Church and a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved cooking, grilling, gardening, welding, building, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and telling stories about the Marines.
Services will be at noon, Saturday at Pontotoc Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Lawrence McKinzie will officiate. Burial will be in East County Line Cemetery in Houlka. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Delois Garrett of Pontotoc; one son, Alfonzo Badie of Pontotoc; one goddaughter, Samyia Brooks of Pontotoc; two godsons, Marcus Thomas of Pontotoc and Darron Farr of Jackson; two brothers, George Brown of Pontotoc and Thomas Garrett of Chicago; and two sisters, Annie Pearl Houston of Water Valley and Annie Clyde Walker of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Oliver Hurt Jr.
Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
