TUPELO – Arlie Mae Grady, 84, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House following an extended illness. She was born in Itawamba County on Nov. 16, 1927, to Isom Hadaway and Erin Perry Hadaway.
She graduated from Smithville High School and married the love of her life, Buford Grady. They made their home in Calhoun City, where she was an active member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church and where she was instrumental in starting the Methodist Rummage House. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling, fishing, tailgating for the Mississippi State University football games, and caring for her family. She loved her dog, Maggie. She worked many years as an interior decorator with her dear friend, Ruth at Ruth’s Draperies. In 2003 she moved to Tupelo to live with her son until 2010 when she went into Magnolia Manor in Tupelo.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. in Haughton Cemetery in Amory. Visitation were from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from noon to service time Wednesday.
Survivors include her son, Billy Grady (girlfriend, Leslie Eubank) of Tupelo; special grandchildren, Kenzi Eubank and Chelsea Cernigliaro of Tupelo; nieces, Doris Fields (Roger) of Richmond community and Brenda Garner of Wren; nephews, Donnie Garner (Cindy) and Danny Garner (Kim), all of Wren; and great-nieces, Susan Loden (Ricky) and Amy Caples (Jessie), both of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford, who died in 2001; a brother, Shirley Hadaway and wife, Marie; and nephew, Joniel Hadaway.
Pallbearers will be Mike Beasley, Donnie Garner, Terry Bagwell, Greg Lawson, Don Caviness and George Spellings. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Holloway, Mike Armour, Mike Barnes, Perry Smith, Jerry Moore and Robert Clanton.
