RebelTHON will be held April 5-6 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the Jackson Avenue Center in Oxford. The event is based on a dance marathon, but not limited to those with nimble feet.

“Yes, there is dancing but there will also be activities for students and the families visiting from Le Bonheur,” said RebelTHON Director of Public Relations Wil Yerger. “RebelTHON is not only the name of our event, but it is also the name of our organization. We are new to campus this year. We’ve started from the ground up.”

Dance marathon is a national fundraiser  hospitals within the Children’s Miracle Network and each CMN hospital has an region of service. The Oxford group is putting their own twist on dance for their event.

“The reason it is called a dance marathon is because every hour on the hour we teach a ‘morale dance’ to all of the participants at the event,” Yerger said. “This dance is just supposed to be a morale booster that keeps everyone’s energy up. The only requirement we have for the participants is that they stay on their feet for the entire event. Whether they spend their time dancing or eating of playing games is up to them.”

Sponsorships and donations are being sought for the event with levels ranging from $100 to $5,000 with name branding perks for businesses and industry. All funds raised with stay in the service community at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Le Bonheur is a 255-bed teaching hospital with over 500 medical staff members treating 45 pediatric specialties. It serves children in 95 counties throughout Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama.

“Being in North Mississippi, we were matched with Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital,” Yerger said. “About 22,000 children from Northeast Mississippi are treated at Le Boneur every year, so the northeast Mississippi community is greatly affected by the aid given at Le Bonheur.”
