PHEBA – The Eagles took their first division loss but sandwiched it in between two big wins last week to finish on the positive side of the scoreboard.
Hebron Christian, 15 vs. Central Academy, 2
Hebron scored two in the top of the first but Central tied it up in the bottom of the inning. That’s when the Eagles got serious at the plate and started to put the game away.
HCS scored two in the second, one in the fourth, four in the sixth and six in the fifth to secure the 15-2 victory. Will-Corbin Rogers five innings, with four K, four hits and two runs. Drew Myatt came in for two innings and had three K, no hits and no runs.
“Our hitting is slowly coming around,” said Coach Cass Tapley. “I think we just need more time in the box. (It was a) nice district win with a big district game coming up Thur at home against Winona.”

Hebron Christian, 3 vs. Winona Christian, 15
HCS scored one in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead into the top of the third. But that’s where it fell apart. WCS went up by 12 in the third that included no hits but five BB. Three more runs by WCS in the fourth would end the scoring for the night and give the Eagles their first district loss.
“We left 12 runners on base and out-hit Winona 6-3 but trouble with the strike zone and a couple errors in the third and fouth innings hurt us,” Tapley said. “Will Corbin was not in the lineup today due to the basketball All-Star game so that took a .600 hitter out of the order and our no. 1 pitcher.”
Trey Chism pitched 2 1/3 innings with two K, five runs, four BB. Drew Myatt came in for 4 2/3 innings with five K, two BB, two runs. Hitting for HCS Trey Chism, 2/4 Ryan Moore, 1/3 Collin Moore, 1/3, 2 RBI Channing Tapley, 1/3 Troy Arnold, 1/4. Drew Myatt also had an RBI. In JV action HCS took a 7-5 loss. Hebron, 15 vs. Blue Mountain, 0
“It was nice to get everyone in the game and for them to have something positive out of their playing time,” Tapley said. “Troy pitched well and is turning into a nice addition to the pitching staff.”
The Eagles moved out to an early lead, scoring four in the first inning and seven in the third. They added four more in the third to close the game by the mercy rule. Troy Arnold got the win, pitching three innings with two K, one HBP and no hits. He faced one over the minimum with ten batters due to a 0-2 HBP.

The Eagles wrapped the day in another victory, shutting out the Rams. The Eagles ran way with the game from the start, posting ten runs in the first inning, one in the second, three in the third and sixth in the fourth.
“Again, it was another game that everybody got to play and we were able to keep a little rust off some of our pitchers,” Tapley said. “We didn’t give up a hit or have an error all day. We knew we were going to start off the season slow but we are improving. We are a much better team than we were even a week ago.”
Rogers pitched the first inning with one K and no hits. Griffin came in for two innings with two K, three BB and no hits. Tapley finished up in the fourth inning with two K and no hits.
