James Covington

BRUCE – James Lee Covington, 88, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born May 9, 1924, in Calhoun County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a farmer and a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Howard Covington and Verlie Davis Covington; his wife, Dora Pearl Hallum Covington; a grandchild, Donna Brown; a great-grandchild, Dillian Brown; two brothers, John Jeff Covington and Robert Covington; and one sister, Helen Howe.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with Dr. John Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery in Calhoun City. Parker Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Rodney (Brenda) Gene Covington of Southaven and Michael Lee Covington of Bruce; four grandchildren, Michael Brian Covington, Kimberly Michelle Smith, Heather Lee Bandy and Brad Ellison Covington; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler Brown, Bryce Vanderhook, Timothy Vanderhook, Collin Vanderhook, Danielle Covington, Kayla Covington, Haley Covington, Jade Chapell, Jacob Chapell and Kennedy Covington; one sister, Motel Jenkins of Bruce; one brother, Norman Ray Covington of Memphis.

Pallbearers will be James Tyler Brown, Brad Covington, Brian Covington, Billy Keel, Mike Kirby, Ricky Simpson, Mike Smith and Collin Vanderhook.
