OKOLONA – James Toliver Carter, 93, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. He was born April 9, 1919, in Woodland to James Carter and Mary Martin Carter.
As a lifelong resident of Okolona, he attended school there and worked many years in general maintenance for the City of Okolona before retiring in 1976. He was a hard worker, enjoyed his chickens and his yard. He frequently and greatly enjoyed sitting on the front porch of his home with friends and neighbors. He was of the Baptist faith.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Jimmy Bryan officiating. Burial is private. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time only. Holland Funeral Directors Okolona Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include his son, James Wayne Carter (Diane) of Okolona; two daughters, Virginia Mangus of Pickwick Lake, Tenn., and Marty Anderson of Pasadena, Texas; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a son, Allen Carter.
