Circuit Court wraps up in Okolona

news-court-crime-stockOKOLONA – The January term of Chickasaw County Circuit Court saw 11 of the 79 cases on the docket disposed of in open court.

The two week term opened on Jan. 28 and continued through Friday, Feb. 8 at the Chickasaw County Courtroom in Okolona. Nine probation revocations were also heard.

The docket saw 28 drug-related cases set for this term, down from the 36 on the docket in September.  Alleged crimes of theft, burglary or embezzlement ranked second on the January docket with 21 cases. The court calendar also listed five sex-related charges and seven alleged crimes of violence. Six cases of DUI went before Circuit Court judges with 12 cases appeals from Justice Court or Municipal Court.

The following individuals, charges and the status or action of the January/February 2013 term of Chickasaw County Circuit Court are:

• Chad Atkinson, sale of marijuana – two counts. Plead guilty. Sentenced to two 3-year terms to run consecutively with three suspended and placed on three years supervised probation. Ordered to pay $1,708.50 in fines and fees.

• Jacquette Atkinson, burglary. Plead guilty. Sentenced to 7-years, 5-years probation and remainder suspended. Ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution and $733.50 in fees.

• Terry Neal Bivens, felony DUI. Plead guilty. Sentenced to 5-years and serve 1-year in Chickasaw County Jail and 4-years supervised probation. Ordered to pay $4,230.50 in fines and fees.

• Kelsey Blanchard, sale of marijuana, $20,000 bond. Case continued.
