OKOLONA – Toshiko Haraguchi Smith, 75, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at her residence south of Okolona. Toshiko was born in Tobata, Japan on May 14, 1937 to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Haraguchi.
She met and married her husband of 52 years, Billy B. Smith, on June 15, 1960, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan. They made their home on the Smith family farm in Chickasaw Co. until her death on Saturday. She was a master housewife who cared deeply for her family. She was an avid TV game show watcher with her favorites being Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She loved cooking and was especially noted for her southern cooking skill as well as her native Japanese dishes. A shopping enthusiast, she enjoyed meeting people, good conversation and sharing her jovial, silly personality. She was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the New York Yankees. She was a longtime member of the Boone’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dr. Wallace Cason III and the Rev. H. B. Miller officiating. Burial will be private.
Survivors include her husband, Billy B. Smith of Okolona; her daughter, Kathy Smith Lee and husband, Danny of Madison; her son, Henry R. Smith of Okolona; her grandchildren who affectionately knew her as Grandma, Matthew and Michael Lee of Madison; her brothers-in-law, Johnny Smith (Deana) of Gibson and Charles Smith (Effie Mae) of Okolona; nephews and niece, Larry, Jack, Margaret, Rick, David and Gene.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Smith; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jean Durham.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until service time Tuesday.
