HOUSTON – Houston’s 5-star defensive end Chris Jones has been committed to Mississippi State since June. He took an official visit to Ole Miss last weekend.

In an interview Tuesday in Houston he talked about his recruiting and what is next.

“I’m still committed to Mississippi State. Both programs amazing,” Jones said. “I went to Ole Miss this weekend. I never knew they had that much, great coaches, players, many things.”

Jones (6-foot-7, 255) confirmed that his decision is between the two in-state schools and he will make his announcement on National Signing Day, Feb. 6.

He has shot straight to the top of national recruiting chatter after big performances in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic and Under Armour All-America Game.

His official visit came at the same time as key Ole Miss recruits Robert Nkemdiche, Laquon Treadwell and Antonio Conner.

He said Tuesday night that Ole Miss was actually on him before Mississippi State and that he likely got lost in the shuffle after he moved from Nettleton to Houston for his junior year.

“Ole Miss recruited me first,” Jones said. “I went to camp. They started recruiting me. I guess I got lost in the transition and I guess State picked up.”

Some of the biggest names in college football have come calling since June. Alabama and Auburn both made late pushes.

Jones said he would like both parents to see each school, but knows it isn’t likely. His mom has seen Mississippi State. His dad has seen Ole Miss.

Both Mississippi State and Ole Miss have scheduled in-home visits Saturday.

Jones planned to unofficially visit Starkville last weekend, but arrived in Oxford after midnight. News of his visit exploded on Twitter.

“Half the people want you to go to Mississippi State. Half want you to go to Ole Miss,” Jones said. “It’s crazy.”
