HOUSTON – Margaret Lowe Griffin Waldrop, 88, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. She was born March 22, 1924, in Pyland, to Thurmon and Gladys Fleming Lowe. She worked as a store clerk and at several area factories, retiring from Ceramic Tile in Houston. She also baked cakes for the public and was well known for her delicious caramel cakes.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Southern Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Patrick officiating. Interment is at Concord Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Griffin King (Jay) of Winston/Salem, N.C.; a granddaughter, Lauren King of Winston/Salem, N.C.; a grandson, Jamie King of Roanoak, Va.; a sister, Sharon Lowe Gilder of Vardaman; and two brothers, Thurmon “Ish” Lowe (Joanne) of Columbus and Franklin Lowe (Sara) of Thorn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurmon and Gladys Fleming Lowe; two husbands, Henry M. Griffin and James F. Waldrop; her sisters, Monette Lowe, Dot Lowe Price and Jeannie Lowe Nathey; and one brother, James Davis.

Pallbearers are Wes Lowe, Jeffrey Lowe, Bill Gilder, James Ralph Lovvorn, Kenny Scott, Mark Harrelson, Mike Peel and Walter Archer. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Koon and Joe Taylor.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Houston.
