ABERDEEN – It’s usually a matter of seconds before customers passing through the doors of Flora’s Collections are greeted with not only a smile, but a welcoming laugh. It’s that level of customer service that makes the women’s clothing and accessory store a well-rounded shopping experience.

“I’ve worked in retail for years and since I have a passion for fashion, I wanted to work for myself. I love going to the markets and being self-employed, but I love my customers the most since I’m a people person. I want all the women in Aberdeen to look good,” said Flora Outlaw, owner of Flora’s Collections.

She also credits a unique fashion-minded sixth sense to setting her business apart from most.

“My personal touch is my gift of being able to tell a customer’s size and style as soon as she walks through the door plus I can get on their level. I’m not going to take anyone for granted who walks through my door,” Outlaw said.

Outlaw has frequented markets in Tunica and Atlanta, but with the economy’s downturn, more of her vendors have come to her. She takes it upon herself to stay educated on fashion by thumbing through magazines like Vogue and Elle.

“Since I’ve been open, I’ve seen the style go from 70s mini skirts to maxi dresses and back to the mini skirts, but in 2012, a-ny-thing goes. As long as it feels good, wear it,” Outlaw said.

She explained in the retail industry, store owners buy spring lines in the fall and fall lines in the spring.

While the store is predominately clothing, she also carries fragrances and a wide selection of accessories and jewelry.

“I don’t limit my selection to certain brands, but instead I’m selling fashions and accessories for the total woman,” Outlaw said.

Throughout the Christmas season, Outlaw will offer her customers a buy one, get one half off deal. She also offers gift certificates and gift wrapping.

“The reason for Christmas is the Lord. Had it not been for the blessings God has bestowed on me, none of this would be possible with my business,” Outlaw said
